"Got Something to Say?" Trump on Europe's Role in Iran Conflict Mediation
Europe lacks the capacity to contribute significantly to the Iran conflict, according to Trump's statement.
In the heated tension between Israel and Iran, President Trump deems European states' diplomatic efforts irrelevant. "Iran ain't chatty with Europe. They want a word with us. Europe ain't got shit to offer," Trump responded to a reporter's question about recent European talks with Tehran. While there are reported contacts between the US and Iran, Trump kept mum on details.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that US special envoy Steve Witkoff has been engaging with Tehran.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, accompanied by his French, British, and EU counterparts, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi in Geneva, aiming to find a negotiated solution to the ongoing conflict, particularly concerning Iran's nuclear program. Post-meeting, Wadephul stated that the Iranian side seems open to continued discussions on crucial matters.
Speculation on a Deceptive Tactic
Trump remains critical of this initiative. Regarding Tehran's request for a ceasefire preceding negotiations, Trump thinks it's a tall order for Israel. Israel is currently "kicking ass" in the war against Iran, he declared. A ceasefire request would be more feasible if one side didn't have the upper hand. Trump initially announced he'd decide on US military intervention within two weeks; now, he considers two weeks his "last resort."
Iran's Foreign Minister Araghtschi questions the sincerity of the announced two-week deadline for diplomatic efforts. The US must demonstrate their commitment to pursuing a negotiated solution or have "something else cooked up and just want to attack Iran," he told a US news channel. "Maybe they hatched this plan and needed the negotiations to cover it up." Araghtschi expressed a growing distrust of the US, having met with Europeans prior to the interview.
Trump was also queried about US intelligence agency assessments claiming Iran isn't currently building a nuclear bomb. "Guess my agency boys is off-base then," Trump quipped. If US Intelligence Coordinator Tulsi Gabbard claimed that, she'd be wrong, Trump insisted. Gabbard made this statement in Congress earlier this year. Iran maintains that its nuclear program is peaceful in nature.

- As the Iran conflict continues, with Israel reportedly asserting dominance in its war against Iran, Donald Trump has raised concerns over potential deceptive tactics, implying, "War-and-conflicts and politics intertwine, and I fear Iran might be using negotiations as a tactic to hide their true intentions in the economic and monetary union."
