"Time to Handle It Ourselves" Trump: Europe Can't Help in Iran Standoff

Europe holds no significant role in resolving the Iran conflict, according to Trump's assertion.

In the heated tensions between Israel and Iran, US President Donald Trump has shown little interest in involving European states as mediators. "Europe can't help," Trump bluntly stated when posed the question. The Old Continent, according to Trump, doesn't hold the key to resolving the Iran conflict.

The US President has been in contact with Iran, but he's keeping his cards close to his chest, speaking in vague terms about the future. Rumors suggest that Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff has been in communication with Tehran.

German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, along with his counterparts from France and the UK, and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, met with Iranian chief diplomat Abbas Araghtchi in Geneva. The aim was to address the escalating situation, particularly concerning Iran's nuclear program. Wadephul reported a "good result" after the talks, but Trump remained unimpressed.

"If Iran wants to continue talking, let 'em talk. But Europe can't help," Trump reiterated, emphasizing his confidence in the US's ability to handle the crisis. Trump's stance on Europe reflects a broader issue of strategic independence, with the Trump administration often treating their European allies as subordinate partners.

When questioned about Iran's demand for a ceasefire before negotiations, Trump expressed skepticism. "Israel is winning, after all," he stated. Despite previous announcements that he would decide on US military intervention within two weeks, Trump now claims that a decision will be made "sooner than that."

Trump also voiced his doubts about the assessment of US intelligence services that Iran isn't building a nuclear bomb. "Well, then my intelligence services are wrong," Trump stated bluntly. If US intelligence coordinator Tulsi Gabbard made such a claim, Trump emphasized, she would be incorrect. Gabbard, in fact, stated in Congress earlier this year that Iran's nuclear program was for peaceful purposes only.
