€50,000 in Grants Awarded to Young Talents in Medicine and Music

The Hans and Ruth Giessen Foundation has awarded €50,000 in grants to young talents in medicine and classical music. A ceremony held at the University of Saarland's auditorium marked the ninth time the foundation has recognised promising individuals. This year's recipients include a junior researcher and a gifted cellist, both set to advance their careers with the funding. On March 19, 2026, the foundation distributed grants to 24 young people, bringing its total support over nine ceremonies to €460,000. Among the winners was Dr. Ahmad Aljohmani, a junior researcher at Saarland University Hospital. His work examines how the body reacts to severe bacterial infections, with a focus on blocking harmful inflammation. The grant will now allow him to expand his research into head and neck tumours.

Paula Prudlo, a 19-year-old cellist, also received funding. A student at the Saarland University of Music, she previously played in the German National Youth Orchestra. The grant will help her upgrade her instrument, improving her chances in auditions with professional orchestras. The event included a keynote speech by Philipp Gross, managing partner of Peter Gross Bau. He spoke on the theme of 'Challenging and Nurturing Talent', highlighting the importance of supporting young professionals in their fields.

The latest grants will directly support Dr. Aljohmani's medical research and Prudlo's musical development. Since its first ceremony, the foundation has now invested €460,000 in 24 young recipients. The funding aims to provide concrete opportunities for their future work.
