European Union Stands Firm on Ukraine's Sovereignty Ahead of London Meeting

Representatives from Britain, Europe, Ukraine, and the USA will gather in London today for a crucial meeting aimed at coordinating positions before the upcoming summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on peace in Ukraine.

Ahead of the London meeting, European Commission spokesperson Arianna Podesta has reiterated the EU's unwavering support for Ukraine's independent sovereign decisions. In a statement to RBC-Ukraine, Podesta emphasised that any peace negotiations must fully include and respect the democratic will and sovereignty of Ukraine.

The European Union has made it clear that peace must be just, comprehensive, and respect international law, including Ukraine’s sovereignty. The EU strongly opposes Russia's attempts to dictate terms or enforce territorial concessions by force. The EU remains committed to supporting Ukraine politically, economically, militarily, and humanitarianly until a lasting peace aligned with Ukraine's will is achieved.

The EU's stance is based on the principle that any peace settlement must be Ukraine-led and not imposed by external powers, especially ones coercing Ukraine into relinquishing sovereignty. The EU underlines that any peace settlement must respect Ukraine's independent sovereign decisions as a non-negotiable principle in all talks with Russia.

In the lead-up to the London meeting, Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, has been in constant contact with EU leaders to prepare for the discussions. Von der Leyen has pledged to maintain this level of communication with EU leaders after the London meeting to ensure a united front in the negotiations.

The London meeting marks a significant step towards finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The EU's firm stance on Ukraine's sovereignty serves as a reminder that the international community will not tolerate any actions that undermine Ukraine's democratic will or territorial integrity.
