Roof Climber Refuses to Pay 12K Euros: Legal Battle Erupts Over Stadium Stunt
Rock climber files lawsuit against stadium management over €12,000 debt claim - EU Parliament and Council Reach Consensus on Stipulated Points:
Whoa, buckle up! A daring chap from Osnabrück is trying to avoid a 12,000 euros bill from the Dortmund cops after scaling the holy grail of football stadiums – Signal Iduna Park – during the Euro 2020 quarter-finals last summer. And he's not backing down, filing a lawsuit with the administrative court in Gelsenkirchen, as confirmed by a court spokesperson to German Press Agency.
This is getting juicy, the lawsuit under file number 17 K 3525/25 is knocking doors now, with the plaintiff's lawyer's brief handed over to the court last Friday.
Cops cry foul, demand their due
The Dortmund fuzz already sent the guy, then 21 years old, a bill for a whopping 12,076.93 euros for their deployment costs. A grand total of 108 cops, including the elite SEK team, were on the job. According to a police spokesperson, about 9,973 euros of that colossal fee goes towards the personnel costs of the deployed units. They also pocketed extra change for examining and seizing his backpack, as well as deploying the trusty ol' police helicopter.
The climber had only chipped in a measly 1,050 euros in fines for trespassing before.
Up on the roof again, and again
Our rambunctious Osnabrückan was found beneath the stadium roof during the Euro 2020 quarter-final match between Germany and Denmark. According to Der Spiegel, he had already scaled the darn thing the previous evening to snap a few memories. He reportedly belongs to the thrill-seeking "roofing" community, who enjoy climbing into death-defying heights. He was nabbed again in October at Ulm Cathedral.
His lawyer had already announced, before the bill ever dropped, that they would not pay up. The security forces were already there, after all. Stay tuned for updates on this legally tumultuous climber vs. cops showdown!
