The Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility, and Future (EVZ) is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary from August 2, 2025, to June 13, 2026. This year-long commemoration will be a testament to the foundation's dedication to honoring the former forced laborers and survivors of Nazi injustice.

The anniversary program, themed "NO TIME TO FORGET," will focus on amplifying survivors' voices and involving young people in civil society. The initiative will encompass education, memory culture, and international cooperation, with a diverse program of events planned throughout the year.

One of the key elements of the anniversary schedule is the new funding program, "Young Civil Societies for Democracy," which supports international youth education projects involving Germany, Georgia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Belarusian exile groups. The aim is to motivate youth civil engagement and foster a sense of responsibility towards history.

Another significant initiative is the ongoing project, "It's Ability," which runs from May 2025 through October 2026. Although event details are not yet publicly available, more information can be found on the project’s dedicated website.

The artistic, journalistic, and visual anniversary formats will emphasize the relevance of a vibrant culture of remembrance in Europe. The interactive learning module "Paid Out?!" on the EVZ Academy online platform delves into the recognition of Nazi injustice towards forced laborers.

Starting autumn 2025, the EVZ Foundation's podcast "Worth & Dignity" will recount the history and context of compensation payments to forced laborers. A community event called "EVZ Histoday" on the theme of transforming memories is planned for May 2026.

The main anniversary events, including the 25th anniversary celebration of the EVZ Foundation and the EVZ Connect networking event, will take place in Berlin in December 2025. The anniversary website will be available from August 1, 2025, and more detailed and regularly updated information can be found on the Foundation’s official website (stiftung-evz.de).

The multimedia remembrance project "Ma Bistrass! Against Forgetting" by Luigi Toscano, which honors NS survivors from the Sinti and Roma community, will open its exhibition in November. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has taken on the patronage of the anniversary.

The German Bundestag passed the law establishing the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility, and Future on August 2, 2000. In 25 years of foundation work, more than 6,000 projects have been supported in collaboration with over 2,500 partner organizations.

This anniversary marks a significant milestone for the EVZ Foundation, and we invite everyone to join in the year-long commemoration, remembering the past, embracing the present, and looking forward to a future built on the foundation of remembrance, responsibility, and future.
