EU Nations with Minimal Asylum Applications Include Denmark

Denmark's got some of the lowest asylum claims within EU member states, y'all! That's according to the Ministry of Immigration and Integration's recent blather.

Here's the lowdown: In 2024, Denmark ranked 20th out of 27 EU countries in terms of asylum seekers per capita, a steep drop from its 5th place standing in 2014.

And guess what? In 2023, Denmark was even lower, coming in at 21st on the EU list.

Immigration Minister Kaare Dybvad Bek reckons Denmark's strict immigration rules are a big part of this. "I ain't shy to admit that these tough regulations have helped knock down asylum numbers," Bek said in the ministry's press release.

The minister's also proud of Denmark's repatriation policy for rejected asylum seekers, stating that most of 'em have decided to pack their bags and head back home.

Now, you might think that fewer claims mean fewer approvals, right? Guess what? Denmark's got that covered too. In 2021, Danish authorities only approved 860 asylum requests, a low number compared to recent years (except for 2020, thanks to Covid-19 lockdowns).

The Nordic country's not content with its current asylum stance, though. Last month, Denmark, along with eight other EU states, including Italy and Poland, penned an open letter urging a rethink of the European Convention of Human Rights interpretations, particularly those concerning migration.

Now, lemme spill some beans about Denmark's asylum environment compared to other EU countries. While countries like Germany and Sweden have more liberal asylum policies and higher approval rates, Denmark has managed to keep things tight and under control. Their Aliens Act includes provisions for migrants to regularize their status through various means, but they gotta meet some serious requirements, like passing language tests and demonstrating a financial resilience- y'know, the usual stuff.

In a nutshell, Denmark ain't interested in being part of the asylum-seeker circus like Germany and Sweden. They're all about controlled admission and strict conditions for migrants within their territory. And that's how they roll, people!

In the realm of general news, Denmark's strict immigration policies and asylum laws have resulted in lower asylum claims compared to many other EU member states. Furthermore, this trend has extended to news about art and politics, as the country recently joined eight other EU states, including Italy and Poland, in calling for a reassessment of the European Convention on Human Rights interpretations related to migration.
