EU membership within the next decade is a viable prospect, according to a Scottish minister.

Scotland is seeking to strengthen its partnership with Germany, particularly in the realm of renewable energy, with hydrogen exports being a significant part of this strategy. This focus on hydrogen exports to Germany is not only a standalone initiative but also forms part of Scotland's broader economic partnership with the EU and Germany.

Scotland's Minister for Foreign Relations, Angus Robertson, is at the forefront of these efforts. He believes a close partnership with the EU and Germany, particularly in energy trade, is both realistic and achievable. Robertson is also optimistic about Scotland's potential to rejoin the EU within a decade if independence is achieved.

The Scottish government is determined to hold a referendum to make a decision on EU membership, with work on the referendum already underway. However, the exact date for the referendum has not been set, as it requires the consent of the British government, making the timing uncertain.

Robertson is in regular contact with German ministries and companies regarding energy trade, and a network for electricity and hydrogen from renewable sources is being planned. Direct exports between Scotland and Germany are possible, but pipeline progress needs to be made.

The Scottish National Party (SNP) is pushing for a referendum to decide on Scotland's EU membership, with support for Scottish independence not having decreased since the first referendum 11 years ago, according to regular polls.

The main obstacle to Scotland rejoining the EU, according to Robertson, is British politicians who don't want to lose Scotland. Despite this, the Scottish government continues to push for a second independence referendum, with Robertson stating that he believes a second referendum can begin and wants it to happen as soon as possible.

The potential hydrogen exports to Germany are a significant part of Scotland's strategy to boost its renewable energy sector. While no concrete starting time for the hydrogen exports has been set yet, Scotland, as a country rich in energy, is interested in exporting hydrogen to Germany to contribute to the global transition towards renewable energy.
