The State Commissioner for Regional Development, Dr. Ulrike Witt, embarked on a visit to the Canal-Fuhse region on August 28th, as part of her summer tour. The region, located in the west of the City of Peine, consists of six villages: Berkum, Eixe, Röhrse, Rosenthal/Hofschwicheldt, Schwicheldt, and Vöhrum/Landwehr.

During her visit, Dr. Witt inspected various public measures presented by the mayors of the respective villages. In Schwicheldt, she examined the conversion of a former stable into a retirement home and the design of the village center. She also inspected the village park creation and redesign in Vöhrum.

The mayors of Berkum, Eixe, Röhrse, Rosenthal/Hofschwicheldt, Schwicheldt, and Vöhrum/Landwehr were present during the inspections, along with Dr. Reinhardt, the mayor of one of the villages, and Mr. Bartscht, the mayor of another. However, the exact identity of the mayors present and the specific villages visited were not specified.

MEP Bernd Lange accompanied Dr. Witt on the visit, but no new information about his role was provided. Since its inclusion in the state of Lower Saxony’s village development program in 2017, numerous private and public measures have been realized in the Canal-Fuhse region, with around 3.8 million euros in funding allocated to various applicants.

The First Mayor of the City of Peine, Hans-Jürgen Tarrey, received Dr. Witt and MEP Lange at the town hall. The purpose and date of the visit were not disclosed. Since the visit, no new information about the funding amount or the number of applicants has been provided.

The visit to the Canal-Fuhse region marks another stop in Dr. Witt's summer tour, as she continues to inspect and support regional development projects across the country.
