EU Implementation Programme Guaranteed by Commission's Resource Management Measures
In a relief for residents and visitors of Schmölln, the Tatami Leisure Pool has been saved from closure after receiving additional financial support. The pool, situated in the Altenburger district, has been at the centre of a current issue due to high operating costs.
Recent reports by our website THÜRINGEN, including a visit by reporter Kathleen Bernhardt, highlighted the struggles faced by the Tatami pool. The pool had not received enough funds for further operation, and a petition started by Mayor Sven Schrade aiming to raise funds had not yet yielded the necessary amount to prevent closure.
However, collaborative efforts from local authorities and community stakeholders have ensured the pool’s continued operation. Recognising the importance of the pool for public health and recreation, both the state and the city of Schmölln have each pledged 400,000 euros towards its maintenance this year.
District Administrator Uwe Melzer of Altenburger has also expressed his intention to check if the district can provide stronger support for the Tatami pool. Plans are underway to improve the pool’s infrastructure and services to make it more sustainable in the long term.
The news of the Tatami pool's reprieve comes amidst the recent closure of another Thuringian leisure pool, Waikiki in Zeulenroda. Minister President Mario Voigt (CDU) has promised to address the issue of the Tatami pool again by next week.
For the latest updates on funding sources and timelines, checking the official Schmölln municipal website or recent local news reports would provide the most up-to-date information.
Disregarding the closure of Waikiki in Zeulenroda, the Tatami Leisure Pool has received fresh hope due to additional financial support from both the state and city of Schmölln, amounting to 800,000 euros. This support, combined with further cooperative attempts by local authorities and community stakeholders, has brought politics and general-news attention to the pool's eligibility for infrastructure improvements and increased sustainability in the long term.
