ETuF Tennis Section Celebrates 125 Years With New Centre Court

The Essener Turn- und Fencing Club e.V. (ETuF) marked a significant milestone on September 20, 2025, as its tennis section celebrated its 125th anniversary. Despite rumours, no prominent tennis players visited for an exhibition match, as public information confirms.

The club, established in 1901, initially held tournaments on courts along Bahnhofstraße in Essen. To commemorate its 125th anniversary and the upcoming FISU World University Games in summer 2025, the club has constructed a new centre court. Mayor Thomas Kufen praised this addition, highlighting its benefit to the city's sports enthusiasts.

The anniversary celebration drew notable guests, including Dietloff von Arnim, President of the German Tennis Association, and former Essener tennis star Helga Masthoff. Mayor Kufen also attended, extending his congratulations to all club members. The tennis section, renowned for its excellence, has previously hosted legendary players like John McEnroe and Boris Becker.

The ETuF tennis section's 125th anniversary was a momentous occasion, marked by a new centre court and distinguished guests. Despite no exhibition matches by prominent players, the club's history and future prospects remain bright, aiming to welcome all Essener sports enthusiasts.
