Estonia’s northeast buried under 24 cm of snow overnight

Heavy snowfall has blanketed parts of Estonia overnight, with some areas seeing over 20 centimetres of fresh snow. The deepest measurements were recorded in the north-eastern counties, while western regions reported only a light dusting. Weather experts warn of slippery conditions and more wintry mix on the way.

The Environmental Agency's automatic monitoring network, covering 27 stations nationwide, tracked the snowfall. In Väike-Maarja, Lääne-Viru County, the snow reached 24 centimetres—the highest recorded. Nearby Ida-Viru County also saw significant accumulations.

The snowfall has created stark differences between eastern and western Estonia. With more wintry weather forecast, drivers are advised to prepare for hazardous travel. The Environmental Agency continues to monitor conditions through its observation network.
