Estonian Prime Minister discusses boundaries with Zelenskyy: Forced border alterations are unequivocally unacceptable

Estonia, a staunch supporter of Ukraine's sovereignty and EU integration, has called for the rapid opening of EU negotiation clusters for Ukraine and Moldova without delay. The Estonian Prime Minister, Kristen Michal, made these statements during a conversation about Ukraine's future, reiterating her support for Ukraine's path towards a just and lasting peace.

Michal's statements continue to condemn changing borders by force and the aggression against Ukraine. She emphasised that respect for territorial integrity is the foundation of stable international relations. The aggressor, according to Michal, should be held accountable.

In line with these sentiments, Ukrainians, as per Michal, should have the right to reject any peace proposal that does not ensure a just and lasting peace. War damages, she stated, should be compensated.

The Estonian Prime Minister offered full support for Ukraine and Moldova's path towards EU membership. European security, according to Michal, depends on Ukraine's security.

Since being granted EU candidate status in 2022, both Ukraine and Moldova have been making strides towards accession. Accession talks formally began in June 2024. The European Commission has recommended the continuation of Ukraine and Moldova's EU candidate status, contingent on implementing seven critical reforms in Ukraine. These reforms cover judicial reform, anti-corruption measures, anti-money laundering, and legislation alignment with EU norms, among others.

Estonia, along with other Nordic-Baltic countries, is a significant military and political supporter of Ukraine. Estonian officials urge the broader EU to fully step up its backing, thereby reinforcing Ukraine’s position to negotiate from strength.

In summary, Estonia's and the EU's current steps and progress in supporting Ukraine and Moldova's EU membership path include strong diplomatic coordination, support for fast-tracked negotiation phases, and emphasis on fulfilling key reforms. This reflects an active, coordinated approach by Estonia and the EU to advance Ukraine’s and Moldova’s EU accession paths while reinforcing peace and regional security.

The Estonian Prime Minister's statements maintain the position that sanctions against Russia should not be lifted until Ukraine's sovereignty is fully restored. The statements also reinforce the importance of respect for territorial integrity in stable international relations.

The Estonian Prime Minister, Kristen Michal, further emphasized her stance on war-and-conflicts, such as the aggression against Ukraine, by calling for sanctions against Russia to remain until Ukraine's sovereignty is fully restored. In the realm of politics and general news, Michal reiterated the significance of respect for territorial integrity in ensuring stable international relations and fostering a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
