Estimated DJ LeMahieu recovery timeline shared by Aaron Boone

Get ready, Yankee fans, it seems like the team might be welcoming back a veteran infielder soon!

According to manager Aaron Boone, injured DJ LeMahieu could be just a few days away from reentering the big league squad, recovering from a calf strain he incurred during spring training. Boone revealed that LeMahieu will be playing back-to-back with the Triple-A team, Scranton, on May 9 and May 10, and if all goes well, he could be in play for the weekend games!

LeMahieu plans to play third base on May 9 and second base on May 10, as he works on playing consecutive days on the field. Boone remarked that LeMahieu wanted the buildup of his recovery to go as well as possible, aiming to recover naturally by playing second base.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are facing some challenges as they've lost three straight games, with second baseman Jazz Chisholm expected to miss four to six weeks due to an oblique injury. With LeMahieu's expected return, the team might gain some infield depth. Boone mentioned that he intends to give LeMahieu some playing time at third base, as that position needs to be an option for the team.

LeMahieu, a three-time All-Star and two-time batting champion, struggled last season with injuries, limiting him to just 67 games and a .204 batting average with a .527 OPS. He has two seasons left on his contract and is due $15 million this year and next. With the significant investment the Yankees have made in him, expect them to provide every opportunity for him to prove his worth.
