With just 10 points needed to secure promotion, Rot-Weiss Essen is on a roll in the third league. Minds are already set on next season.

Christmas came and went with a disappointing 17 points from the first 19 games of the season, causing serious concerns about a possible relegation to the Regionalliga. New coach Uwe Koschinat seemed to be a promising solution, but the winter break left many Essen supporters feeling anxious and uncertain.

However, things turned around in the second half of the season. Thanks to Koschinat's leadership and the arrivals of players like Klaus Gjasula, Dominik Martinovic, Kaito Mizuta, and Matti Wagner, RWE quickly became the strongest team in the league. They've already surpassed the usual survival requirement of 45 points, and while promotion isn't yet guaranteed, Essen fans can start planning for the next campaign with some confidence.

Brumme's Future Up in the Air

The close proximity to promotion only magnifies the potential that could have been achieved with a stronger first half of the season. As Koschinat's future is already secured, the team is likely to remain intact. The only definite departure is Julian Eitschberger, who is only on loan from Hertha BSC and will return to Berlin in the summer.

From the core of the team, only left-back Lucas Brumme is bound to leave at the end of the current season. Negotiations with Brumme have already commenced, but there's still a noticeable gap between the two sides, as reported by "Reviersport." Brumme is reportedly fielding offers from other clubs, including a second division team.

With lingering questions about Kaito Mizuta's permanence, Essen's left side may need a complete overhaul. A possible replacement for Brumme could be Jan-Erik Eichhorn from FSV Frankfurt. Trained at Hannover 96, Eichhorn has shown promise in his two years in Frankfurt and could be primed for the next step in his career.

Becker: A Possible New Arrival

While Eichhorn may require a contract buyout, the 25-year-old Dominik Becker could be another addition to RWE's roster. According to "Bild," Becker is on Essen's radar, having finished his contract with 1. FC Saarbrücken at the end of June. Becker is currently open to all offers and is expected to make his decision after the season. Koschinat's previous experience with Becker at Saarbrücken could work to Essen's advantage in their pursuit of the defender.

  1. While Rot-Weiss Essen has secured the necessary 45 points to avoid relegation, promotion to the second league is not necessarily guaranteed yet.
  2. Uwe Koschinat's future at Rot-Weiss Essen seems secured, but only left-back Lucas Brumme is bound to leave at the end of the season, despite ongoing negotiations.
  3. Essen's potential left side overhaul could involve Jan-Erik Eichhorn from FSV Frankfurt as a replacement for Brumme, given Eichhorn's promising performance in the past two years.
  4. Dominik Becker could also be another addition to Rot-Weiss Essen's roster, according to reports, as he is open to offers after finishing his contract with 1. FC Saarbrücken.
  5. As Rot-Weiss Essen prepares for next season in the sports world of football, with a potential Champions League or European league participation, their eyes are already set on securing the necessary players to compete at the highest level.
