Drunk man run over and driven away with car: 20-year-old convicted in Essen - Essen Driver Gets Suspended Sentence After Fatal Hit-and-Run of Drunk Pedestrian

A 20-year-old man has been given a suspended sentence for running over a drunk pedestrian and leaving the scene in Essen. The incident, which took place after both men had been drinking, resulted in the victim’s death from severe head injuries. The trial at Landgericht Essen ended this week with a 1.5-year probationary term. The incident began when the defendant, then 19, refused to give the 46-year-old victim a lift. After an argument, the victim stood in front of the car, placing his hands on the hood. Despite this, the driver moved forward at walking speed, causing the man to fall. The case concluded with a suspended prison term and a driving ban. The victim’s death was directly linked to the injuries sustained when he was struck and run over. The defendant will serve no immediate jail time but remains under probationary conditions.
