ESPN recruits Chase Daniel for college football analyst position
Chase Daniel, Former Missouri Tigers Quarterback, Joins ESPN as College Football Color Commentator
Chase Daniel, a former standout quarterback for the Missouri Tigers, has joined ESPN as a college football color commentator. The 38-year-old will make his debut on Aug. 30 when Pitt hosts FCS Duquesne.
During his college career from 2006 to 2008, Daniel was Missouri's all-time leading passer, throwing for an impressive 12,515 yards and setting the program's single-season passing record with 4,335 yards in 2008. In his stellar junior year, he passed for 4,306 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
In 2007, Daniel won the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award and finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting. He also scored four touchdowns on the ground in his standout junior year.
After college, Daniel had a 14-year NFL career, primarily as a reliable backup quarterback. He appeared in 74 NFL games, made five career starts, and played for the Saints, Chiefs, Eagles, Bears, Lions, and Chargers before retiring in 2022. He totaled 1,746 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and seven interceptions in his NFL career.
Daniel has previous experience in media, having been a co-host of the FS1 show "The Facility". He has also done studio work for NFL Network and hosted a podcast for The Athletic. In addition to color commentary, he will work in the studio as an NFL analyst.
Daniel's partner will be play-by-play announcer Clay Matvick. The duo will work together for the first time on Aug. 30 when Pitt hosts FCS Duquesne.
Despite retiring from the NFL three years ago, serving as Justin Herbert's backup on the Los Angeles Chargers, Daniel remains a valuable addition to the ESPN team. His extensive experience and deep understanding of the game will undoubtedly bring a fresh perspective to college football broadcasts.
