Escaped Russian detainees from SIZO issued a statement
Two prisoners, Alexander Cherepanov and Ivan Korukov, made headlines in September when they managed to escape from a detention center in Yekaterinburg. The escape was reported on the 1st, and the subsequent manhunt became a focus of attention for local and national media.
According to reports by E1.RU, Cherepanov and Korukov are accused of being terrorists and extremists, charges that were initially levied against them due to their involvement in an attempt to burn down a military enlistment office. Both men are also listed as terrorists and extremists by Rosfinmonitoring.
The duo is believed to have made their escape by breaking into the attic and leaving via the roofs of the detention center. The ensuing search for the fugitives lasted for over a week, with Cherepanov being captured on September 8 and Korukov on the 15th.
During their time on the run, Cherepanov recorded an audio message that was broadcast through loudspeakers on patrol vehicles. His actions were also reported by E1.RU. Cherepanov assisted investigators in locating Korukov, who was eventually captured.
In October, charges will be laid against both men. The head of the press service of the GU MVD for the Sverdlovsk region, Valery Goryunov, confirmed this development. It is unclear at this time who will lead negotiations against the escaped terrorist in Russia.
Throughout the ordeal, both Cherepanov and Korukov have been cooperating with the investigation. With their capture, the public can breathe a sigh of relief that these accused terrorists are now back in custody.
