Escalation threat looms as Iran issues alert for possible conflict with Israel at any time

The current state of tensions between Iran and Israel remains extremely high and volatile, with both nations preparing for a potential new war as soon as late August 2025. The recent 12-day conflict in June, marked by missile attacks from Iran targeting Israeli residential areas, has left the region on edge.

According to Yahya Rahim Safavi, a military advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran is currently in a state of war, not a ceasefire. Safavi emphasizes the importance of strengthening Iran's missile, drone, and cyber systems in preparation for the worst-case scenario.

Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has renewed threats against Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stating that he had previously intended to assassinate him during the war but did not get the opportunity to do so. Katz also claimed that the Israeli army had tried to kill Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during the conflict.

The fighting between Iran and Israel stopped after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire on June 24. However, it is unclear how much damage the US strikes on Iran's nuclear sites caused, and Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi threatened to respond to another Israeli or US attack in a "more decisive manner" last month.

The Iranian-Israeli conflict extends beyond the border, with Israel intensifying airstrikes targeting Iran-supported Houthi forces in Yemen. These strikes have resulted in casualties and are part of broader Israeli efforts to weaken Iranian influence across the Middle East. Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy in Lebanon, remains armed and is unlikely to disarm despite pressure from the Lebanese government, maintaining a persistent security threat to Israel.

Diplomatic efforts have faltered, with Iran unlikely to meet the nuclear deal conditions set by European powers (UK, France, Germany) by the end of August 2025, prompting a possible snapback of UN sanctions. Iranian consultations with Russia regarding regional security also hint at complex geopolitical alignments amid rising US influence in the Caucasus, adding another layer to the tensions involving Iran and Israel.

Iran's nuclear program remains a critical flashpoint, with Iran suspending nuclear negotiations after Israeli and US bombings that targeted Iran's nuclear capabilities. Iran retaliated against Israel's attack with missile and drone attacks, marking the latest in a series of belligerent remarks between the two nations since June's conflict.

The current lull after June's 12-day conflict is described as a temporary halt by First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref. However, with both nations preparing for a potential new war, it is clear that the tensions between Iran and Israel are far from over.
