Escalating Terror Acts in Jammu Area Stir Alarm: L-G Manoj Sinha's Statement of Concern
Srinagar: Terrorism Concerns Mount in Jammu Region, L-G Vows Crackdown
Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, expressed worry over the rising terror activities in the Jammu region during a recent event. Although the J&K police, the Army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have effectively quelled terrorism in the Kashmir Valley, terrorist incidents have escalated in the Jammu division, a cause for concern.
However, Sinha expressed confidence in the security forces' determination to eradicate this menace. He urged the police to leverage cutting-edge technology and modern tools to increase operational efficiency. He emphasized the need for a future-ready police force capable of addressing evolving terror and organized crime threats in the digital age.
During the passing out parade of the 16th batch of Basic Recruit Training Course (BRTC) of J&K police constables at Manigam, 438 recruits, including 86 women, demonstrated their completion of rigorous training. Among the trainees, 211 were previously serving as Special Police Officers (SPOs) with the J&K police.
Sinha praised the bravery of J&K police and encouraged the new recruits to serve with diligence and high professionalism to protect the nation. He expressed gratitude toward the police force for sacrifices that have allowed citizens to live peacefully and work freely.
Recent years have witnessed a series of deadly terror attacks in Jammu region, notably the attack on April 22, 2025, near Pahalgam, which targeted and killed 26 civilians, mostly Hindus. The attackers reportedly asked victims about their religion before firing, hinting at communal animosity. The Resistance Front, a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot, initially claimed responsibility but later retracted the claim. This attack was one of the deadliest civilian assaults in the region since 2000 and intensified tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir.
In response to these attacks, Indian security forces have implemented measures to combat terrorism, includingstringent legal action, strengthened military and paramilitary operations, and adaptive deterrence strategies. Jammu and Kashmir police have seized properties linked to suspected terrorists and intensified patrolling to prevent infiltration and terror activities. India has also evolved its deterrence strategy to counter not only direct terrorist attacks but also proxy operations and cross-border infiltrations.
As tensions remain high in the region, Sinha's call for a future-ready police force seems crucial to maintaining stability and security in Jammu and Kashmir.
