A fresh threat emerges from Trump toward Iran: potential escalation via new assaults following uranium enrichment - Escalating Tensions: Trump Imposes Threat of Fresh Attacks Over Proposed Uranium Enrichment by Iran

Chamenei showed defiance in a video message released on Thursday, claiming that the U.S. has achieved nothing with its strikes on three major nuclear sites in Iran over the weekend. This has evidently aggravated Trump. He took to his social media platform Truth Social, stating that Chamenei's claim of winning the "war" against Israel was a "lie." Instead, Trump asserted that he had prevented Israel from bombing Chamenei's hideout, which he claimed to possess knowledge of.

Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, acknowledged the intention to eliminate Chamenei: "If we had him in our sights, we would have taken him out," Katz said on radio station Kan.

Trump's threat of fresh attacks lacks a clear strategy. Previously, the President had insisted that the U.S. air strikes over the weekend had entirely destroyed and "eliminated" the enrichment facilities in Iran. However, media reports question the extent of the destruction, suggesting that the U.S. would have no reason for new attacks if such reports are true.

At the NATO summit in The Hague, Trump announced new nuclear talks with Tehran for the coming week. Yet, the timing and feasibility of these negotiations remain uncertain. "Iran wants to meet," Trump said in Washington. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtchi denied that Tehran is keen to return to the negotiating table.

Araghtchi criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) call for inspectors to inspect Iran's nuclear facilities. The IAEA chief Rafael Grossi's plea may be "dirty play," Iran's foreign minister wrote on X social media.

On the contrary, Israel's Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, justified the 12-day war against Iran. He implored the international community to take responsibility for preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, penning his thoughts on X.

  • Iran-U.S. Nuclear Talks: Stuck in a deadlock as of early June 2025, endeavors to negotiate have yielded no progress due in part to escalating tensions and recent military actions.[1]
  • Nuclear Facilities in Iran: The series of U.S. and Israeli airstrikes have caused damage but failed to wipe out Iran's nuclear capabilities.[2]
  • Iran's Response to Sanctions: In response to the strikes and increasing external pressure, Iran's parliament passed a law suspending cooperation with the IAEA, reducing international oversight on its nuclear activities and increasing the risk of covert development.[2]
  • Threat of Future Military Operations: Israeli officials have hinted at resuming operations against Iran if necessary to disrupt its nuclear and ballistic missile programs. Iranian officials have threatened retaliatory attacks against potential Israeli strikes, heightening regional tensions.[1]
  • Geopolitical Legacy: The environment of pressure and military action, partly stemming from policies associated with previous U.S. administrations, complicates the prospects for renewed diplomacy.[1][2]
