Looks like the Germania Halle fraternity, known for its ties to the far-right, has been distributing promotional flyers at more schools in Mainz than originally thought. The authorities view this as a deliberate recruiting tactic.

Mid-March saw news break out that the controversial Germania Halle fraternity had handed out flyers in Mainz schools. At that time, only two schools were mentioned: the Frauenlob-Gymnasium in the Mainz Neustadt and the Gustav-Stresemann-Schule in the Oberstadt. However, it seems that at least two more schools are now毕业考试所在的学校have been affected by the fraternity's actions.

This is evident from a response by Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister of Education, Stefanie Hubig (SPD), to a request from the Green state parliamentarians, Daniel Köbler and Carl-Bernhard von Heusinger. Beginning of March, "one or more individuals, presumably members of the aforementioned fraternity," entered the premises of "several schools" in Mainz and distributed flyers. The flyers promised "free beer in free period" and aimed to attract students who were "patriotic" and didn't want to "get stuck in the leftist swamp" at university.

According to the Ministry of Education's response to the Greens' request, in addition to the previously known schools, the Gymnasium Mainz-Oberstadt and the Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium now appear to be affected. Additionally, exterior shots of the Theresianum Mainz can be seen on the fraternity's Instagram account. However, there is no information on whether flyers were also laid out there.

The flyers were distributed without the knowledge of the school principals and were immediately removed, the ministry explained. Disciplinary action, such as house bans, has been imposed on fraternity members, and in case of a recurrence, the affected school principals will report the matter to the police.

All schools in Mainz where the Abitur can be taken have been informed about the flyer distribution, and the schools have been instructed to regularly check possible locations where flyers could be placed.

The fraternity has been fairly low-key in public in recent years, but their increased social media presence and the flyer distribution action suggests a networking and recruitment strategy aimed at generating new members.

Since 2024, the Rhineland-Palatinate Office for the Protection of the Constitution has been monitoring the Germania Halle zu Mainz fraternity. The fraternity has "numerous and increasingly intense connections to the far-right scene," Hubig said. This has become particularly clear with the "Zentrum Rheinhessen" association. Moreover, the fraternity house has been frequented by right-wing extremists from the region and other parts of Germany for years. The fraternity consistently promotes a far-right and racist ideology.

As documented by newspapers from the VRM group earlier.

  1. The increased social media activity and flyer distribution by the Germania Halle fraternity, linked to the far-right, at multiple schools in Mainz suggests a deliberate strategy for recruitment and networking in politics and general-news.
  2. As the Gymnasium Mainz-Oberstadt and the Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium are now known to have been affected, along with previous schools, it's crucial to monitor crime-and-justice situations related to the fraternity's aggressive recruitment tactics.
