Tensions in Kashmir: Chancellor Merz advises India and Pakistan to act rationally - Escalating Kashmir Dispute: German Chancellor Merz Urges Rationality Between India and Pakistan

Time and again, the world witnesses a tug-of-war between India and Pakistan in the Kashmir region. The latest escalation, following a spate of violence, has Chancellor Merz advocating for 'reasonable' actions.

It all started with a devastating terrorist attack on April 22, which took the lives of 26 tourists, most of them Indian, and one Nepalese citizen. The tragedy brewed a storm, culminating in India bombing numerous targets in Pakistan on May 7. The aftermath saw casualties of at least 34 lives and injuries to many more, as per official reports.

Amidst the chaos, Merz has stepped up, voicing the need for cool heads. He insists that France and Germany stand united with their European counterparts and the region's stakeholders, ready to exert influence.

The British government, meanwhile, has been actively urging India and Pakistan to engage in dialogues, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer pushing for de-escalation between the two Commonwealth countries.

Kashmir, a contested territory since the independence from British rule in 1947, continues to be the bone of contention between India and Pakistan. To this day, both nations claim sovereignty over different parts of the region.

While there's no specific call to 'act reasonably' from Merz in recent coverage, the situation has sparked global concern. Global leaders like UN Secretary António Guterres and officials from China and Russia have all pleaded for tension reduction. The violent outbreaks in the Kashmir region have become a recurring theme, with military actions and cross-border firing becoming increasingly common.

It's high time both India and Pakistan step back from the brink and take a cool, calculated approach to resolve this century-old issue. A dialogue free of threats and intimidation could pave the way for lasting peace.
