Powerful, unexpected moves have set the stage for an mammoth battle: Israel's audacious, game-changing Operation "Rising Fury," launched on a fateful Friday, June 13, 2025. This extraordinary offensive primarily targeted the most fortified installations connected to Iran's nuclear program, as well as high-ranking Iranian officials. The onslaught left Iran with no choice but to defend itself by retaliating with massive counterattacks. These exchanges of attacks have relentlessly continued across the weekend, with no foreseeable resolution in sight.

This map provides a snapshot of reported attacks thus far, keeping in mind that due to the fluid nature of the conflict and the difficulty in verifying information, this map is not exhaustive. Israel didn't shy away from targeting not only key nuclear facilities but also private residences of top military officials and scientists in the heart of Tehran, as well as sites in western Iran where ground-to-ground missiles are suspected to be stationed. Iran, in turn, firing numerous missiles primarily at Haifa in northern Israel and the Tel Aviv metropolitan region. Although Israeli reports claim most missiles were intercepted, the impacts in the homeland have been significant.

As of now, the death toll in Israel has reached 24 with hundreds more injuries. The official toll in Iran stands at 497 deaths and nearly 2,600 injuries following the aggression begun by Israel's large-scale offensive on that tempestuous Friday night.

Devastation in Tehran

The Iranian capital has been subjected to numerous heavy attacks. There are reports of a 14-storey residential building in the northeast of the city being struck and subsequently collapsing in an attack. Residential areas in Iran have also reportedly been bombed. Furthermore, there are records of explosions at Mehrabad Airport, as well as targets like a fuel depot, an oil refinery, the rocket base Bid Kaneh, a military base Parchin, and the state broadcaster IRIB. The Iranian news agency Tasnim has confirmed the death of Mohammed Kasem, the chief of the powerful Revolutionary Guards' intelligence service, and his deputy Hassan Mohaghegh. These two influential figures were killed in the attacks on Tehran. In the past, leading military officials and nuclear scientists have been targeted and eliminated in the capital.

Iran's Strikes on the Tel Aviv Region

Iran committed retaliatory strikes against Tel Aviv and its vicinity with rocket attacks. Many of the rockets were intercepted by Israel's powerful defense systems, but not all. A multi-storey building in Bat Yam, south of Tel Aviv, was hit, resulting in multiple casualties. The newspaper, New York Times, reports at least one death in Ramat Gan from the impacts. By Monday, several people lost their lives in Iranian attacks on Petach Tikva. The same source reports that at least one Iranian rocket has hit Kirya, the location of the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the headquarters of the armed forces. In the port city of Haifa in northern Israel, Iran targeted Israel's largest oil refinery.

Operation "Rising Fury" is aimed at decimating or considerably delaying the progress of Iran's nuclear program, thereby preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. Iran maintains that they aren't involved in manufacturing nuclear weapons. The mines, processing facilities, reactors, and research centers for uranium are situated throughout the country and heavily secured – for instance, the uranium processing facility at Fordo is underground. Despite evident destruction of facilities, including the research site in Isfahan, an evaluation by Israeli Iran expert Sima Shine, a former Mossad employee, suggests that substantial damage has not been inflicted on Iran's nuclear program [2].

In essence, we are witnessing a titanic struggle between Israel and Iran, with Iranian ballistic missile strikes causing numerous injuries in the Tel Aviv area and damage in Beersheba, which has provoked Israel to escalate its retaliatory attacks toward strategic and government sites in Tehran and other parts of Iran.
