As the stage is set for another round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, a storm of military activity erupts on both sides. Diplomats are busy finalizing documents and files, all the while, military and intelligence forces engage in intense attacks.

Kyiv has agreed to a Russian proposal for another direct meeting in Turkey to end the Ukraine war. Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, shared the news on the X platform, "On Monday, our delegation will be headed by Defense Minister Rustem Umjerov." The meeting, similar to the one held two weeks prior, will take place in Istanbul.

Zelenskyy outlined the Ukrainian stand for the forthcoming Istanbul meeting: a complete and unconditional ceasefire, prisoner releases, and the return of abducted children, as well as a high-level meeting to establish a permanent peace and ensure security.

Ukrainian Forces Strike Russia

With months of covert preparation by the Ukrainian intelligence service, an ambitious counter-offensive against Russian military airfields was initiated. As reported by the Ukrainian intelligence service (SBU), over 40 aircraft, including Tupolev Tu-95 and Tu-22 bombers and special early warning aircraft Beriev A-50, were annihilated at four airfields.

The Russian military, however, only admitted to "several" damaged aircraft at Murmansk and Irkutsk.

It is rumored that Ukrainian intelligence used drones, hidden away in camouflaged wooden houses and concealed on trucks, launched to attack Russian bombers. Whether these whispers hold truth or not, reliable corroboration remains elusive.

Meanwhile, a cargo train was derailed in a region under Russian control in the early hours of Sunday, following an explosion on the tracks. This came after two incidents in Russia, resulting in bridge collapses and subsequent train derailments in the border regions of Kursk and Bryansk, causing severe casualties, including 7 fatalities and nearly 70 injuries, including children. Bridge collapses were deemed a terrorist act by the Russian Investigative Committee.

An Afternoon Attack on Krasnodon, a town in the Luhansk region under Russian occupation, reportedly saw cruise missiles impact civilian areas, injuring an unspecified number of residents.

Fatalities Following Russian Strike on Ukrainian Troops

Following a Russian rocket attack on an Ukrainian army training unit, at least 12 soldiers were killed, with over 60 sustain injuries. The incident led to the immediate resignation of General Mychajlo Drapatij, the army commander, who acknowledged his failure to ensure the proper implementation of orders.

The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a regulation on the establishment of a European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation between the European Community and the Member States, as policy-and-legislation discussions on war-and-conflicts, particularly politics related to general-news such as the escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, continue to dominate global discourse. Despite the ongoing peace talks, there are reports of increased military activities on both sides, with Ukraine's intelligence service allegedly launching a coordinated attack on Russian military airfields, causing significant damage, while Russia denies these claims.
