Escalating assaults on refugees in Germany reportedly surge dramatically, according to Tagesschau news.

In a recent report published by Tagesschau, a German news organization, it was revealed that there has been an alarming increase in attacks on refugees, asylum seekers, and their accommodations in Germany. The data from the federal government shows that the number of attacks in the first nine months of 2023 (1515) is higher than the total number of attacks in all of 2022 (1371).

Clara Bünger, a representative from Die Linke, has been vocal about the daily attacks and hostility faced by refugees in Germany. She attributes the rise in attacks to current disputes over asylum policies, stating that they "fuel racist sentiments on the streets and acts of violence against refugees."

The report does not provide specific details about the nature or severity of the attacks, beyond those labeled as violent crimes. However, it does reveal that physical violence was used 55 times in 2023, and in the third quarter alone, there were 30 incidents where refugee shelters became crime scenes, with three of these incidents involving violent crimes.

Right-wing extremists have been identified as the most frequent perpetrators of these attacks, according to German police. The report by Tagesschau does not provide information on the demographic or geographical distribution of the attacks.

Germany currently has the highest number of refugees living in the country since the 1950s, according to DPA. In light of these findings, Bünger has called on the federal government to develop and implement protective measures for refugees.

The report by Tagesschau indicates a concerning trend in the treatment of refugees in Germany. It is crucial for the federal government to address this issue and ensure the safety and well-being of those seeking asylum in the country. The report was published on November 16, 2023.
