Veteran visionary, Errol Musk—father of tech titan Elon Musk, stepped foot in Moscow for the first time, gracing the Forum of the Future 2050 at Moscow University. During the conference, he partook in the panel "Russian Space: Racing for Peace" and affectionately appraised President Vladimir Putin as an "impressive leader". The divisive clash between Elon and former US President Donald Trump was playfully dismissed by Errol as an exaggerated issue.
Guided through an exhibit displaying Russian robots and contemporary art, Errol shared his captivation with space: "When the (Soviet) satellite blasted off in 1957, it left me spellbound. I spent all night scanning the sky."
Evoking nostalgia, Errol reminisced about his upbringing steeped in engineering-focused families that fueled their discussions on electric cars. Deep space conquest, he elucidated, is unfeasible until scientists fully comprehend the mysteries of gravity. Even a lunar landing strains the human body.
Errol vividly recalled the thrill of unleashing the Starship spacecraft, a feat equivalent to the height of a 40-story building, as "remarkable". He forecasted that rockets are destined to escalate in size but anticipates a revolutionary breakthrough — the key to which lies in mastering gravity through mathematical techniques.
Futurologist Sergey Pereslegin supported Errol's viewpoint, asserting that understanding space dwellings would yield new survival technologies beneficial for Earth's polar and desert zones.
The international press swarmed with journalists eager for answers, particularly concerning the media-fueled skirmish between Elon and Trump. Errol answered tactfully: "The spat between my son and the former president was exaggerated, as they both aim to decrease the US deficit."
With enthusiasm, Errol shared his positive sentiments about Russia:
- When my daughter desired to visit Russia, they attempted to dissuade her: "They'll kill you there." I believe that's entirely misguided.
In Errol's eyes, Russia yearns to be a part of the European community, yet is portrayed as an adversary, which he found disconcerting. He emphasized the importance of harmonious relations between Moscow and Washington, fostered through collaboration in space exploration.
Errol likened President Vladimir Putin to "a very impressive individual" with leadership qualities worth emulating.

South African-born Errol Musk spent his career as an electrical engineer before venturing into business. He dealt in Zambian emeralds beforebankruptcy struck when the Soviet Union mastered artificial emerald synthesis. Divorcing Elon's mother in 1979, Errol has a reputation for being an overbearing household head. His contentious relationship with Elon worsened when Errol wed his stepdaughter, a child from his third wife, who was decades younger and bore two children with him. Errol is the father of a total of seven children.
Despite tensions, Elon has never dismissed his father's role in igniting his interest in technology—Errol tutored him extensively.
