Erik Per Sullivan will not reprise his role in "Malcolm in the Middle", the popular sitcom where he was known for his character Dewey.
Welp, Here's the Scoop on the "Malcolm in the Middle" Comeback
It looks like the whole "Malcolm in the Middle" fam is returning for the Disney+ revival, but not everyone's on board – Erik Per Sullivan, the guy who played the younger brother Dewey, is sitting this one out. Bryan Cranston, the show's patriarch, shares the reason Sullivan won't be joining the cast.
Harvard or Hollywood?
Bryan sounds bummed out about Erik's decision. According to him, Erik didn't want to come back and play. Things got interesting when Bryan asked Erik about the revival. Erik was all for it, but when Bryan expressed his excitement about working together again, Erik replied, "Oh no, no, I don't want to do that."
What's the deal, you ask? Well, it seems Erik's busy chasing knowledge instead of fame. Bryan spilled the beans in a podcast: "He's actually studying at Harvard. He's really, really smart, and he's doing his master's at Harvard. He said, 'Oh my God, I haven't acted since I was nine or something. I'm not interested in that anymore.'"
Cranston's Decade-Long Fight
Bryan seems to be in awe of his TV sons as they've grown into adults and even started families of their own. The show originally aired on Fox, turning Frankie Muniz, Jane Kaczmarek, and especially Bryan into household names. Despite being gone for over a decade, the show won seven Emmys.
Bryan reveals that he's fought for this revival for the past ten years. "I just kept pushing [series creator Linwood Boomer] until he said, 'I have an idea,'" Bryan shared. He finally got the green light, and the gang's all here for the comeback, except for Dewey, who will be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.
No word yet on when the revival will air, but one thing's for sure – this is one comeback that's been a long time coming.

Movies-and-tv and entertainment take a backseat as Erik Per Sullivan focuses on his academic pursuits at Harvard instead. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is set to replace Erik as Dewey in the "Malcolm in the Middle" revival, reflecting a shift away from the limelight for the former child actor.
