Yellow and Red Duck Parade in Erfurt - Erfurt's Duck Race Returns with a Splash and Creative Twist

Erfurt's annual duck race returned this year with a splash, drawing crowds to the Gera River. Over 3,500 plastic ducks took part in the event, which also introduced a new competition for decorated ducks. Families gathered along the route to watch the race and enjoy the festivities in the city centre.

The race kicked off at Luisenpark, where the ducks were released into the river. They then floated downstream toward the finish line at Krämerbrücke. The fastest duck to complete the course was declared the winner of the main race.

This year's event also featured a creative twist. For the first time, organisers invited families to decorate their own ducks, with 500 colourful entries submitted. A panel selected the most imaginative design as the winner of the new decorative duck competition. Alongside the race, a family-friendly programme filled the city centre. Activities and entertainment kept visitors engaged while they waited for the ducks to cross the finish line. The event, a long-standing tradition in Erfurt, once again attracted thousands of spectators.

The duck race remains one of Erfurt's most popular family events. With the addition of the decorated duck contest, organisers gave participants a new way to join in the fun. The race along the Gera River and the lively programme ensured another successful year for the tradition.
