Free Cultural Scene Celebrates Return of Erfurt's Annual Theme - Erfurt Revives Annual Cultural Theme After Artist-Led Advocacy
Erfurt's artistic community has reason to celebrate. Despite initial concerns, the city has reversed its decision and will continue the tradition of an annual cultural theme in 2026. The city has published a funding call, 'KulturOrtsWechsel', with €200,000 available for projects across all disciplines.
Lisa Hilpert, spokesperson for the Permanent Cultural Representation Erfurt (SKV), praised the community's advocacy. She believes their efforts have led to the city's change of heart. The funding call, open until January 15, encourages artists, initiatives, and creative professionals to submit ideas that focus on a specific location.
Previously, in August, the city had announced it would not proceed with the biennial cultural theme for 2026 due to low revenue expectations. However, the recent decision to continue the tradition has been welcomed by the independent community in Erfurt.
The city of Erfurt has allocated €200,000 for the 'KulturOrtsWechsel' grant program, which aims to fund projects that transform unconventional spaces. The funding call is open to artists, initiatives, and creative professionals, providing an opportunity to bring innovative cultural experiences to the city.
