Erfurt caravan break-ins leave owners with costly damage and theft

Two caravans in Erfurt have been targeted by thieves, with offenders causing significant damage and stealing items. Police urge owners to take extra precautions to protect their vehicles during the off-season.

The break-ins occurred recently, with thieves forcing open a roof hatch and a side window on one of the caravans. They stole a cordless screwdriver and several lamps, but the property damage exceeded the value of the stolen goods. Police have not yet identified the perpetrators.

To prevent such incidents, police advise owners to ensure all windows and doors are locked at all times, even during brief absences. Additional locks, wheel clamps, and steering wheel locks can also deter thieves. Parking in well-lit, visible locations and removing valuable items can further discourage theft. For longer storage periods, an alarm system or GPS tracking can provide extra security.
