Equestrian Celebration in Fuengirola

Fuengirola, Spain, is set to host the eighth annual "A Caballo" event on September 20, 20XX. This one-day equestrian extravaganza, organised by the Penya Caballista, Centro Hípico Dana, Club de Enganches de la Costa del Sol, and Centro de Equitación El Ranchito, promises a day filled with tradition, sport, entertainment, and horses.

The event takes place in various iconic locations, including Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza Reyes Católicos, and Avenida Condes de San Isidro. Equestrian displays by El Ranchito and Centro Hípico Dana will take place at Plaza de la Constitución.

The highlight of the event is the 47th Carriage Exhibition, one of Andalusia's oldest, surpassed only by Jerez. This exhibition, a central part of the "A Caballo" event, showcases the deep roots of equestrian culture in southern Spain. The carriage contest, starting at 12pm, covers a 12-kilometre route past the Paseo Marítimo Rey de España.

The carriage contest includes a unique manoeuvrability test in the historic bullring, adding an exciting twist to the traditional event. A costume and harness contest on Avenida Condes de San Isidro awards prizes for the best rider, Amazon, and young participants.

The "A Caballo" event is a significant cultural and sporting occasion for Fuengirola, gaining increasing prominence as a local hallmark. It reflects Andalusia's broader reputation as a global center for equestrian art and horsemanship, particularly the breeding and training of Andalusian horses, which are world-renowned.

This year, the event is held in memory of José Luis Martín Lorca, a Malaga-born entrepreneur who was a pioneer in Costa del Sol tourism, emphasizing the event’s connection to local heritage and its contributions to regional identity and tourism.

To add to the festivities, live music from artists like Hermanas Serrano, Hugo Dogma, and D' Straperlo will be performed during the event, transforming the city center into a huge celebration.

Councillor Isabel Moreno and Penya Caballista president Hugo Ruiz emphasised the event's growing prestige and deep-rooted love for horses in Fuengirola. With its blend of tradition and modernity, the Fuengirola "A Caballo" event reinforces Andalusia's status in the international equestrian and cultural tourism scene.
