Ephrata field hockey triumphs in a victorious comeback against Cedar Crest, displaying a revival-like performance.
Ephrata Field Hockey Team Secures Victory in Emotional Gray Out Game
In a thrilling turn of events, the Ephrata Mountaineers emerged victorious in their fifth annual Gray Out game, a match dedicated to brain cancer awareness. The team, led by coach Alicia Arnold, was emotionally invested in the game, as it was held in honour of her late husband, Dave.
The deciding moment of the match came with 40 seconds left in the third quarter, when Cassie Bollinger made a pass that led to a point-blank attempt, ultimately securing a 2-1 victory for Ephrata. The two goals scored earlier in the game were by Kara Ingham, who found the back of the net on a pair of shots through the first 27 minutes.
Ephrata's opponents, Cedar Crest, put up a valiant fight, with Ella Becker scoring one goal with 6:48 left in the third quarter. Despite the Falcons' efforts, they were unable to equalize, thanks in part to a defensive save by Brynn Nagle with 2:10 remaining in the game.
The Falcons, a young team still learning the ropes, showed potential for growth during the match. They had several breakaways, causing Ephrata to defend vigorously. Cedar Crest also had a total of 11 shots and drew 7 corners during the game.
Ephrata had been on a four-game losing streak before this match, but they managed to turn things around, thanks in part to their study method called 'Glows and grows,' where each player identifies one mistake and one success. Kailee Spitalsky, in goal for Ephrata, made 10 saves in the game against Cedar Crest.
Unfortunately, Marie McCracken, a blue-chip recruit for Ephrata, was sidelined due to an undisclosed injury.
The Ephrata field hockey team will look to build on this victory as they continue their season.
