Environmental Protection Proposal Request from the Commission for Consideration

In the heart of Germany, the Free State of Thuringia is set to embark on a new tourism strategy, following a proposal by MPs Ulrike Jary and Martin Henkel. The strategy, aimed at realigning tourism and regional marketing under the 'Green Heart of Germany' brand, is currently being discussed in the state parliament.

Thuringia, known for its rich history and picturesque landscapes, has tourism as a significant economic factor. The Wartburg region, for instance, primarily relies on tourism, encompassing both city and hiking tourism. The Free State currently ranks at the top nationwide in terms of guest satisfaction and service.

However, MP Henkel reminds that Thuringia faces challenges in the tourism sector. To address these challenges, the new strategy will focus on reducing bureaucratic hurdles, creating distinctiveness and recognizability for Thuringia and its regions, and offering a more comprehensive approach to tourism. This includes considering conferences, meetings, and business trips, in addition to vacations.

The CDU MPs believe the new strategy signals a new beginning, with the aim to make Thuringia stand out. The 'Green Heart of Germany' brand stands for nature, culture, and tradition, and Jary stresses the importance of a consistent state marketing, integrating tourism into a uniform brand strategy.

MP Henkel emphasizes the need for effective marketing of tangible and marketable products from private providers. To this end, the strategy will suggest the introduction of a statewide timetable, a tourist mobility ticket, and a statewide guest card. These measures are intended to make travel within Thuringia more accessible and attractive for tourists.

In addition, the strategy will aim to address challenges such as offerings and personnel. MP Jary wants to promote the 'Green Heart of Germany' identity both externally and internally, with the hope of attracting more tourists from neighboring countries.

Who is responsible for developing a new tourism strategy in the Free State of Thuringia? While the details are yet to be finalised, the discussion in the state parliament indicates a collaborative effort towards a more prosperous and sustainable tourism industry in Thuringia.
