The goal behind this event was to provide transparency on the current state of Zanders site planning, address questions, and gather suggestions from the community. Many attendees had the opportunity to meet and engage with SPD and Green mayoral candidate, Marcel Kreutz, and hear his clear vision for the Zanders site development.

As recapped by us

"The Zanders site is a significant opportunity for our city – it just needs a smart, climate-friendly, and socially responsible masterplan," Kreutz emphasized during the discussion.

Kreutz received backing from Andreas Ebert, chairman of the planning committee, who presented the current planning documents in detail and fielded numerous questions from the audience.

Consensus was reached that the site should not become solely an investor project – it should cater to all social groups. "We need a blend of homes, workplaces, education, culture, and social life," said Kreutz, drawing attention to proposals for an education quarter, a new city library, and other social and cultural facilities.

Transport connection also emerged as a crucial topic: To accommodate the potential 3,000 new jobs and residents, sustainable mobility solutions must be devised. Community members also emphasized the importance of social mixing: Building plots should not solely be allocated based on the highest bid; building groups and alternative housing projects should also have a fair chance.

Join us for the next event on July 3rd at 7 PM in the UFO in Bensberg. Everyone intrigued by these plans is warmly invited for a chat with Marcel Kreutz.
