Dealing with Disruptions. The Paris transport network has been a mess since May 5, thanks to the ongoing SNCF social movement. Former presidential candidate and Île-de-France Mobilités president, Valerie Pecresse, has had enough. She's calling for strike reform to tackle what she believes is causing "nightmares for Parisians". Her solution? A "full service" during peak hours for working French people.
"I can't fathom why a major public service company would impede Parisians and ruin their lives by blocking transport during strikes," Pecresse stated on France 2. Tired of the commuter's misery, she advocates for a ban on strikes during the busiest hours.
"It's a right, a fundamental freedom," she furthers, acknowledging the historical significance of the right to strike. Yet, she also points out the mounting frustration of citizens who can't go about their daily lives freely when some have monthly or annual subscriptions.
What Does the Future Hold for the SNCF? ## Proposed Strike Limits
While no specific laws have been enacted thus far, there have been proposals aplenty[3]. Senator Hervé Marseille has suggested a law that would allow for the "suspension of the right to strike" by personnel and agents during specific times (6:30 AM to 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM for up to seven days annually, with a cap of 30 days). However, this legislation has yet to be voted on by the National Assembly, possibly due to potential constitutional challenges.
Therefore, the fate of the SNCF in the face of these proposed changes remains uncertain. With Pecresse pushing for action, it seems the future of French rail workers' strikes may well be headed towards a more ordered landscape.

"Valerie Pecresse, amidst the ongoing SNCF social movement disrupting the Paris transport network, is proposing a reform to address the issue, advocating for limits on striking during peak hours as it causes 'nightmares' for citizens. Meanwhile, Senator Hervé Marseille has suggested a potential law that could temporarily suspend the right to strike during certain hours, but this legislation remains uncertain due to potential constitutional challenges."
"Amidst the discussion of strike reform and its potential impact on the SNCF, the historical right to strike is acknowledged, but Pecresse, frustrated by the commuter misery caused by strikes during peak hours, is pushing for action towards a more ordered landscape for French rail workers."
