In the kickoff of the legislative elections on May 18th, Pedro Nuno Santos, a 48-year-old economist spearheading the Socialist Party (PS), rallied the troops at Guimarães' Teatro Jordão. With the rain disrupting plans, he stressed the importance of the PS's victory to defeat the AD and usher in a fresh chapter for Portugal.

"Vote strategically, choosing the PS is the only way to ensure the defeat of the AD and secure transformation in our land," he passionately declared, asserting the cruciality of an united front.

In line with his position, Santos emphasized the significance of honest politicians who welcome accountability and transparency. He urged that politicians should acknowledge failures, learn from them, and sincerely apologize to the citizens.

Santos took the opportunity to spotlight the stark distinctions between the Socialists and the AD. Praising the warm reception he received, he then encouraged socialists to rally together and pioneer the road to victory during these campaign weeks.

Joined by his former internal rival, José Luís Carneiro, and accompanied by rhythmic drums, Santos braved the rain to connect with the people of Guimarães. Their supporters resonated with the chants, "Rain or shine, the PS is on the streets!"

Following his Guimarães visit, Santos headed to Lisbon for a televised debate with all parliamentary parties.

Santos is a strong contender for the upcoming elections, advocating for economic stability and social welfare, while championing the value of a stable government. Moreover, he steadfastly champions progressive cultural policies, setting a clear distinction between the Socialist Party and the AD. His strategic focuses are saturated with investments in public transport and infrastructure, mental health services, and digital innovation[4].

Throughout his campaign, the Socialist Party's leader has been forthright, outspoken, and resilient, undeniably echoing the hopes and aspirations of the Portuguese populace.
