The Austrian Cultural Forum New York has organised a coproduction project for the book presentation of historian Philipp Ther's latest work, titled "The Sound of Monarchy: A Musical History of the Habsburg Empire."
In this comprehensive study, Ther delves into the musical history of the Habsburg Empire, a territory that hummed and sang, danced and drummed until its musical means failed in the Great War. The book explores how the Habsburgs repeatedly overcame challenges such as Napoleon, state bankruptcy, the 1848 revolution, defeats against Italy and Prussia, and the deep internal strains from the late 18th century.
The book presentation and discussion will take place at Liber Wiederin, Erlerstraße 6, though the specific postal code and location were not specified in the text. The event is a cooperation between the Institute for Contemporary History of the University of Innsbruck and Liber Wiederin.
The discussion following the book presentation will be with Dirk Rupnow. The book presentation for Ther's new book is tentatively scheduled for 22 January 2025.
The Habsburg Empire was held together musically, with contributions from the likes of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, as well as waltz kings, operetta princes, and military bandmasters. It is worth noting that the book presentation and discussion are not related to "Habsburg Pop" or the Great War.

This event is not an advertisement, but an opportunity for readers to delve into the rich musical history of the Habsburg Empire as presented by Philipp Ther.
