In the heart of summer 2025, Germany will witness the premiere of a unique and captivating production: the symphonic version of the renowned musical "Evita." This landmark event will take place at the Augsburg Open-Air Stage (Freilichtbühne am Roten Tor), promising a magical musical experience under the stars.

The symphonic arrangement of "Evita," originally by Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics), with the book translated into German by Michael Kunze, will be making its German premiere. This new production features a large live orchestra, notably the Augsburger Philharmoniker, expanding the musical range with additional orchestral parts.

The storyline revolves around the life of Eva Perón, the Argentine first lady, delving into her social and political engagement and controversial legacy. This production maintains the original direction by Harold Prince, adapted under the musical direction of Sebastiaan van Yperen.

The cast is led by Katja Berg as Eva Perón, Alexander Franzen as Juan Perón, and Hannes Staffler as Che. The ensemble, ballet, opera chorus, and a children's choir will support the principal actors, creating a harmonious blend of musical theatre stars, ballet, opera, and live orchestral accompaniment.

Ricardo Fernando, the ballet director, has incorporated various dance styles, reflecting Latin American influences appropriate to the story's setting. The choreography includes tango, salsa, cha-cha, rumba, and jota, promising a vibrant and energetic performance.

The open-air stage in Augsburg presents challenges for the choreography due to its uneven wooden planks. To ensure safety, the dancers will be using special shoes and adapting the choreography accordingly.

The ballet ensemble of the State Theatre, known for their stunning performances in productions like "Heart of Gold," will also be a significant part of this production. They will not only dance but will also sing, adding an extra layer of enchantment to the performance.

A vocal preview of the new musical production was given at a reception for sponsors and partners, generating excitement and anticipation for the upcoming performance. The audience applauded during the intermission and at the end of the premiere, indicating a promising reception for this unique production.

This symphonic "Evita" promises to be a must-see cultural event in Augsburg in 2025, offering a fresh symphonic sound experience that enhances the iconic musical through a powerful live orchestral performance in the open air. Don't miss out on this magical musical night!
