Enjoyed two additional Battlefield 6 maps; quality remains impressive, largely unchanged
In less than a month, the highly anticipated Battlefield 6 is set to hit the shelves, with the online community showing a significant surge of interest, possibly due to a hint of Call of Duty fatigue. Developed by DICE, in collaboration with Electronic Arts (EA), this latest instalment in the Battlefield series is expected to have the biggest launch in the series' history.
The game features two large maps: Mirak Valley and Operation Firestorm, a revisit from Battlefield 3. Mirak Valley, in particular, feels more narrow compared to other maps, with both teams funneled towards two opposing construction sites. On the other hand, Operation Firestorm is set around an oil rig, offering complex and dynamic gameplay due to long pipes, catwalks, and vertical spaces.
One of the notable changes in Battlefield 6 is the control of vehicles. Now, vehicles come equipped with a boost button, adding an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay. However, the presence of bots during the press event was necessary due to the inability to fill a full 64-player lobby. While these bots ensured the event could proceed, they lacked self-preservation and were not fun to fight against.
The new mode in Battlefield 6, Escalation, is a twist on the classic Conquest mode. Escalation forces teams to fight for all points on the map, with points being removed as the match progresses, focusing the fighting into specific areas. This mode worked particularly well on the Mirak Valley map, with final points being almost nose-to-nose in buildings.
The outside regions of Mirak Valley are heavily sloped and carved with trenches, potentially giving an advantage to the team with high ground. The long sprint times needed to reach the action when no squadmates or vehicles are available nearby could be a concern for some players, as the maps in Battlefield 6 are on the cusp of being too big.
Despite these potential challenges, the sound design, visual effects, gun feel, and vehicles in Battlefield 6 create dynamic and emergent moments, making long matches engaging. The popularity of Escalation may heavily depend on the map, but with the captivating gameplay elements and the potential for huge brawls or teams throwing bodies at each other, it's shaping up to be an exciting addition to the game.
With the developer's proven track record and the buzz surrounding Battlefield 6, fans of the series are eagerly waiting for the game's release. Whether you're a seasoned Battlefield player or a newcomer to the series, Battlefield 6 promises to deliver an immersive and thrilling experience. So, buckle up and get ready for the biggest Battlefield launch yet!
