Exclusive Interview: Humberly Gonzalez Discusses Playing Deltan Operative Melle in 'our platform: Section 31'

Published: March 14, 2025

Actress Humberly Gonzalez, who stars as Deltan operative Melle in the latest 'our platform' series, 'our platform: Section 31', shares insights about her character and her experiences working on the production.

Melle, a member of Alok Sahar's team within the clandestine organization Section 31, is a complex character. Although Deltans take an oath of celibacy upon joining Starfleet due to their renowned sexuality, Melle uses her allure to benefit her covert operations.

Additionally, Melle displays empathic abilities, which she uses to calm other operatives when necessary. Gonzalez explains, "Melle's aim is to break free from the traditional mold of conservative, rule-abiding Deltans as we have seen them. She feels her powers are under-appreciated and can be even more effective if she breaks these constraints."

Addressing the loneliness that comes with being a Deltan, separated from relationships with others, Gonzalez notes, "Melle seeks community and purpose among her teammates to avoid isolation."

The actress also highlights Melle's adventurous spirit and desire for excitement. "Melle is a thrill-seeker who dislikes boredom," Gonzalez says. "She moves fast and thrives on action, naturally drawn to the challenge of being a part of Section 31."

In 'The Baraam' episode, Melle showcases more than just her seductive and empathic abilities, engaging in a physical fight against a masked intruder who has gained access to a bioweapons creation. This gives Gonzalez a chance to demonstrate Melle's unique fighting style, combining strength with her Deltan powers.

"I enjoyed working out what this fight meant for Melle and how she would use her Deltan powers in combat," Gonzalez says. "I love telling a story through fighting – there's always intentionality."

The series also reveals that Chameloids are the only immune species to Deltan sexual attraction, providing another layer to Melle's relationships within Section 31, particularly with Chameloid agent Quasi.

"Because Chameloids can't be Deltan-ized, Melle appreciates Quasi's authenticity as he never tries to manipulate her," Gonzalez explains. "Our relationship was based on truth, and we could call each other out in a way that no one else can because neither of us can be manipulated."

Recognizing the impact of her role on the 'our platform' universe and its audience, Gonzalez expresses, "It's humbling to be a part of a story that generates curiosity and fosters unity and community."

'our platform: Section 31' is now available to stream exclusively on Paramount in the U.S. and worldwide where the service is accessible. Christine Dinh, managing editor for 'our platform', helms this series.
