Enhancing Road Safety and Lowering Accident Rates Proposed in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh

In an effort to enhance road safety and traffic flow, the district administration of Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, has announced a comprehensive plan. The initiative, aimed at addressing accident-prone areas and blind spots, particularly on highways and within the city, includes a range of targeted measures.

Key aspects of the plan involve the installation of signboards, side shoulders, radium/cat-eye markers, warning boards, rumble strips, crash barriers, and speed breakers on highways. These additions are designed to improve driver awareness and safety, while the removal of encroachments by fruit vendors and shop operators in busy areas such as Sadbhavna Marg, Bawdi Bus Stand, and Radhavallabh Market will help clear traffic obstructions.

The plan also includes pruning bushes and the removal of trees and poles that block visibility or hinder traffic movement. To further improve visibility, the administration will update road markings. Additionally, no-parking boards will be installed, and traffic rules will be enforced to ensure smoother traffic flow.

The corrective measures are planned to be completed within approximately a month, under the supervision of the district road safety committee chaired by the Collector Bhavya Mittal and Police Superintendent Dharmaraj Meena.

In addition to these physical improvements, the district has launched the Rahveer Yojana. This scheme appoints the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) as a Grievance Redressal Officer and offers incentives such as ₹25,000 to citizens who promptly transport injured persons to hospitals. The scheme also enables injured individuals to receive up to ₹1.5 lakh in cashless treatment at registered hospitals. Awareness campaigns promoting seat belt and helmet usage, particularly among the youth, are also part of the safety effort.

This comprehensive approach combines infrastructure improvements, law enforcement, public awareness, and emergency response incentives, addressing both physical road safety and behavioral factors causing accidents in Khargone.

Elsewhere, Mumbai's KEM Hospital is facing a shortage of Haemophilia medications, forcing patients to resort to costly private alternatives.
