The football season in Central Thuringia is set to begin, with the Kreisoberliga opening at the Waldsportplatz in Weimar Schöndorf. The 14 participating teams will compete for glory, with Schöndorfer SV and Grün-Weiß Blankenhain facing off in the opening game at 6:30 PM.

In the midst of the excitement, the importance of fair play is being highlighted. Fortuna Griesheim/Hettstedt-Dienstedt has won the fair play title in the 1. Kreisklasse, demonstrating an impressive discipline with only 21 yellow cards in 18 games. Similarly, SV Germania Ilmenau from the Ilm district boasts an exceptional record, having no red cards and the fewest warnings (34 yellow cards in 28 games) to claim the fair play title in their league.

The season will also see several top scorers vying for the golden boot. Hannes Kutzer (Germania Ilmenau) leads the Ilm district with 29 goals, while Sebastian Stolze (FSV Großbreitenbach) tops the Kreisliga West with an impressive 39 goals. In the 1. Kreisklasse, Danny Dammrich (Grün-Weiß Plaue) and Harry Heyder (Böhlen/Herschdorf) share the lead with 15 goals each.

The first cup round will take place on August 22/23, but it does not involve Kreisoberligists. The cup final is scheduled for May 1, parallel to a Kreisoberliga matchday, and the semifinals on Easter.

Three catch-up weekends are scheduled from December 8 to March 1, and the official winter break begins on December 7. The season will conclude on June 14, 2026.

FSV Gräfenroda will host Wachsenburg Haarhausen on Sunday, but parking will be limited due to construction activities. Fans are advised to park at the Heizhaus in Ernst-Busse-Straße, with city bus line 7 stopping directly at the sports ground.

Traditional fair play winners and top scorers from all Central Thuringian leagues will be honoured during halftime of the opening game, and also during the halftime of the Schöndorfer SV vs. Grün-Weiß Blankenhain match.

Meanwhile, FSV Martinroda will host promoted Unterwellenborn on Saturday at 3 PM, and SV 09 Arnstadt II will make their comeback against SV 1883 Schwarza on Sunday. However, TSV 1880 Elgersburg vs. Germania Ilmenau has been canceled due to Ilmenau's cup commitments.

For the precise data on fair play award winners and top scorers from the Central Thuringian leagues, it is recommended to check the official website of the Thüringer Fußball-Verband (Thuringian Football Association), local sports news portals or newspapers covering Central Thuringia football, or the social media pages or annual reports of the local leagues or clubs in Central Thuringia.
