In a bid to ensure secure, accurate, and accessible elections, Ohio has implemented new voting system standards that are designed to enhance the security and integrity of elections in the state. The Ohio Ballot Board, under the leadership of Secretary of State Frank LaRose, has approved these new standards, which are said to be the strongest in the country.

According to Secretary LaRose, these new standards are aimed at holding voting systems to the highest possible standards. They apply to vendors, systems, and election equipment, including ballot-on-demand printers and voter registration databases. The new performance and security requirements are expected to improve the accessibility of elections for voters.

Local boards of election are implementing higher physical and cybersecurity standards as per a recent directive from Secretary LaRose. Enhanced physical security requirements include proper equipment storage, video surveillance, and bipartisan access protocols. Monthly cybersecurity checklists are to be completed to ensure protection from threats.

To further bolster election security, a county-specific security audit is to be conducted, led by the secretary of state's chief information security officer and cybersecurity team. This audit will ensure that all networks, firewalls, vulnerability assessment tools, and election equipment are configured with the most recent approved security updates.

The new standards also exceed federal requirements. Election officers are currently testing the logic and accuracy of voting equipment before the November general election to ensure they meet these new stringent standards.

Secretary LaRose has stated that these new voting system standards in Ohio are designed to once again prove that Ohio is setting the national example for election security and integrity. The new standards aim to enhance the security and integrity of elections in the state, and Ohioans can expect a secure and reliable voting process in the upcoming elections.
