Enhanced traffic flow at Dubai Healthcare City aims to reduce congestion by half
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that significant traffic improvements are on the horizon for the Dubai Healthcare City exit, connecting Oud Metha and Sheikh Rashid Roads near Sheikh Zayed Road. The upgrades, scheduled for completion by July 20, 2025, aim to reduce congestion and waiting times by up to 50 percent, particularly during peak hours.
The key upgrades include converting the stop-controlled exit into a free-flowing route, widening the service road exit from one lane to two over a 500-meter stretch, and doubling the exit’s capacity from approximately 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour. These changes are the latest in a series of phased improvements, building on previous RTA enhancements in the area, such as improved entry and exit points between Umm Hurair and Oud Metha.
The changes are designed to ensure uninterrupted vehicle flow in a corridor that serves major hospitals, educational institutions, residential areas, and commercial hubs. The improvements aim to optimise Dubai’s road network, enhance traffic safety, and support the city’s vision for smart, sustainable, and interconnected mobility.
The RTA is finalising these targeted upgrades as part of their wider strategy to deliver over 75 traffic improvement projects across Dubai in 2025, aligning with the emirate’s rapid urban growth and commitment to seamless, sustainable infrastructure. The focus remains on proactive measures to meet evolving mobility needs and support future expansion.
The upgraded Dubai Healthcare City exit to Sheikh Zayed Road will feature a new acceleration lane connecting directly to the intersection of Oud Metha and Sheikh Rashid Road. The adjacent service road is being widened from one lane to two across a 500-meter stretch, improving access for vehicles arriving from Al Riyadh Street. However, the project does not provide any details about the double capacity of the traffic flow beyond the mentioned 3,000 vehicles per hour.
It is important to note that these improvements do not involve any crackdown on unsafe delivery motorcycles or inspections in Dubai, as mentioned in a separate article. The project also does not mention any specific changes to public transportation in the area.
In summary, the Dubai Healthcare City exit improvements are expected to be operational by July 20, 2025, with a significant reduction in congestion and improved traffic flow for one of the city’s busiest corridors. The project aims to deliver a smoother and safer driving experience in Dubai Healthcare City and nearby Oud Metha, supporting the growth and function of this unique mix of hospitals, clinics, academic institutions, residences, and offices.
These traffic improvements at the Dubai Healthcare City exit are not only intended to reduce congestion and waiting times, but also to enhance the overall health of the city's road network by optimizing its flow, ensuring safety, and supporting the city's vision for sustainability. With the upgraded exit set to feature a new acceleration lane and widened service roads, sports car drivers may also experience smoother routes to their destination.
