Brandenburg's Transport Minister Unveils Plans for Additional RE3 Trains, With Reduction in Some Off-Peak Services
Increase RE3 train frequency - decreased train operations during non-peak hours by the Minister - Enhanced RE3 Train Service with Reduced Journeys During Peak Hours as Peralled by the Minister
Get ready for more rides on the bustling Regional Express 3 (RE3) route connecting Berlin, Prenzlau, and Stralsund! Brandenburg's Transport Minister Detlef Tabbert (BSW) dished the scoop in an interview with the German Press Agency in Potsdam. However, tabbert also mentioned that certain off-peak trips would be shelved by the end of the year on select connections.
Minister Tabbert shared his thoughts: "Off-peak hours will see some trips being scrapped from the schedule if an average of less than ten passengers are on board. Routes in Brandenburg will see changes when the timetable is revised for December 2025."
Trains running at four in the morning with an average of just two passengers may be cut back
In less populated areas, there are trains that only have an average of two passengers at four o'clock in the morning. With dwindling ridership, this service becomes untenable for the politicians of BSW.
Tabbert acknowledged that this adjustment will also impact early-morning commuters. Affected passengers will be kept in the loop. The exact routes haven't been disclosed yet. The expected savings are around 5 million euros.
Enhancement of the Popular RE3 Line
The heavily used RE3 line will receive reinforcement along with Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Berlin, according to Tabbert. The line will soon offer an hourly service. The annual additional costs of around 3 million euros for the state are considered a financially sound choice.
The two-hourly line connecting Berlin and Stralsund is beloved by locals and vacationers alike, the railway reported.
Presently, certain long-distance trains of the German Railway can be used with regional tickets like the Germany ticket on specific routes. But this perk won't be available in the future. Instead, a high-frequency service along the RE3 line will be initiated.
