Enhanced Pegasus Yacht: The Pegasus 50 successor offers improved spaciousness, tailored for sailing duos
The Pegasus 67, a larger and more voluminous successor to the Pegasus 50, is making waves in the yachting world. This new vessel, designed for owner-drivers seeking a balance of performance, manageable size, and bluewater capability, offers a unique blend of features that set it apart.
At 67 feet 2 inches (20.46 m) in length, the Pegasus 67 is a significant leap from its predecessor, which measures approximately 50 feet. The design intention behind the Pegasus 67 focuses on creating a boat that offers the performance of a 65ft+ hull but the ease of handling closer to a 57ft boat.
The yacht achieves this by minimizing unnecessary hull volume and maintaining a relatively narrow beam to keep the visual and handling impression smaller. Juan K, a renowned yacht designer, was consulted to optimize the hull appendages and sailplan, further enhancing the Pegasus 67's performance in lighter winds and on long passages.
The Pegasus 67 boasts a long, sleek hull and a spacious interior. The owner's cabin can be a super-suite that takes the full area forward of the main bulkhead, with the option for full separation between guest and owner's cabins. The vessel offers two aft cabins, providing the option for three or four cabins with two or three heads.
The cockpit of the Pegasus 67 is protected by a composite roof and windshield, integrated into the design, offering a safe and comfortable space for navigation and sailing. Offwind sails will typically be left rigged on furlers, with lines and reef controls led to the cockpit, while the mainsheet is out of harm's way on the fixed arch.
The Pegasus 67's internal hull volume is more comparable to a 57-59ft yacht, making it a spacious and comfortable vessel for long voyages. The standard price of the Pegasus 67 includes a painted hull, Estec decking, carbon mast, sails including Code 0, thrusters, and aircon.
The Pegasus 67 is built using vacuum-infused epoxy or Vinylester, with a hybrid of glass and carbon fibres on a PVC core. The first boat of the Pegasus 67 is expected to be ready by early 2027.
Marko Pas, the designer behind the Shipman carbon cruising range, is responsible for the design of the Pegasus 67. The vessel is conceived for light wind sailing and serious passagemaking, making it an attractive option for those seeking a yacht that is easy to handle even in challenging weather.
In comparison, the Pegasus 50 is smaller, with a length overall of about 50 feet. It is renowned for its high performance in light breeze conditions and deck and cockpit layouts tailored for short-handed (especially couple) sailing. The Pegasus 50 has been successful since the Slovenian yard was formed in 2019, with 18 units built to date.
The main differences between the Pegasus 67 and Pegasus 50 are evident in their size, weight, and design philosophy. The Pegasus 67 offers more space and volume while retaining the same philosophy aimed at owner-drivers—good performance, manageable handling, and maintaining a relatively light displacement for its size.
