Stride into the Future: Dreieich Is Back on the Sports Scene

After years in the shadows, Dreieich is ready to embrace athletics and recreational sports like never before! In a bold move, Mayor Martin Burlon has vowed to prioritize athletics on the city's agenda, promising significant investments.

Gearing Up for a Leap:

Preparations are underway to revive the long jump facility on Maybachstraße, with work beginning as early as next week. Although the surrounding 400-meter tartan track shows signs of wear, it's currently considered safe. Experts are currently assessing whether it can be restored effectively.

Athletics, Once Forsaken:

Admitting a lack of political prioritization for decades, Burlon acknowledged that athletics in Dreieich took a backseat. "With the communal protective shield in place, investments in this sector were simply not an option," the city admitted. Only recently, with strategic consolidation of sports facilities in 2017, have investments resumed, primarily targeted at football pitches.

Football's Time in the Limelight:

Already, significant strides have been made in modernizing sports infrastructure. The construction of an artificial turf pitch in Göetzenhain (€2 million) and basic renovations of pitches in Sprendlingen and Offenthal (€440,000) are testament to this. Now, athletics is poised to take center stage. "I will certainly propose to invest visibly in athletics and recreational sports in Dreieich for the first time in decades," Burlon declared.

Fire Service Shake-Up Links to Sports Decisions:

Plans for the future of Maybachstraße are intertwined with another major project: the reorganization of sprendlingen fire stations. Through a land swap with Offenbach district, an area near the Weibelfeld school has become available, potentially opening new avenues for the North Station without disrupting the existing 400-meter track.

July Decisions Loom:

Key decisions on the future locations of fire stations and sports facilities are set for the city council meeting on July 1, 2025. Burlon has pledged to present both the pros and cons of building a new 400-meter track in Sprendlingen or Dreieichenhain.

Sports for All Generations:

While traditional sports facilities take center stage, Dreieich also eyes innovative, low-threshold sports offerings. For instance, a "sports box" in Bürgerpark provides movement options without club membership. Future plans include rolling out similar initiatives, with open conversations with local residents, sports clubs, and associations.
