Get ready for a smoother, safer air travel experience at Kenyan airports! With a 1 million British pounds (Sh177.4 million) investment, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has unveiled a cutting-edge Aircraft Recovery System. This new equipment will operate not just at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, but it can be transported to other airports in the country and beyond.

KAA acquired this new-generation system from the United Kingdom and US-based firm AMS Aircraft Recovery Ltd, with the support of the International Partnership for Services East Africa (IPSEA) [1][2].

In the event of an aircraft being immobilized due to gear collapse, veering off runways, or other incidents, the advanced lifting, towing, and aircraft support systems will be utilized. Last Sunday, JKIA faced challenges when an aircraft had to circle and make a safe emergency landing, disrupting operations for about two hours. Such incidents may be a thing of the past with this equipment [2].

KAA personnel have undergone intensive training in Kenya and the United Kingdom to operate the new system effectively. This significant investment illustrates KAA's commitment to ensuring safety, efficiency, and world-class airport services in their operations [2].

Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir, expressed his enthusiasm for this transformative investment, highlighting the importance of responding rapidly to emergencies, protecting lives, safeguarding airport assets, and minimizing disruptions in airport operations [2].

If you're thinking about air travel in Kenya, take comfort in knowing that your safety is a top priority for KAA. Stay tuned for more updates on the improvements coming to Kenya's aviation sector.
