Englishman Derry John Murkin Departs Schalke 04 for FC Utrecht
After two years with FC Schalke 04, Derry John Murkin is set to join FC Utrecht in the Netherlands, with a transfer fee of approximately €1.5 million agreed upon. The English left-back's contract with Schalke, due to expire in 2026, will not be renewed. Neither club has disclosed the specific terms of the transfer.
Schalke's Sporting Director, Youri Mulder, commented on the financial aspects of the transfer, stating, "From our perspective, the economic framework of the transfer is appropriate given Murkin's age, contract duration, and market value." Murkin, who joined Schalke from FC Volendam in 2023, made 57 appearances for the club, including 54 second-division matches and three DFB-Pokal games, scoring one goal and providing several assists.
Murkin expressed his gratitude towards Schalke 04 for their support during his time at the club. The anticipated departure of FC Utrecht's current left-back, Souffian El Karouani, who has attracted interest from other clubs, may have played a role in Murkin's move.
